As an accomplished United States Navy SEAL, and the former Undersheriff for Johnson County, I am running for Johnson County Sheriff to instill transparency, trust, and teamwork. I will bring back the people’s confidence in public safety by focusing on strengthening relationships between all city, county, and state agencies, ensuring a safe and wholesome community for all.
Growing up as the youngest of five children in DeSoto, I was raised on the importance of hard work, that honesty and integrity are what define a person, and to stand up for others either through your actions or your voice. These traits carried me through my first job with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, my enlistment in the United States Navy in 1989, and completing the arduous Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL training in 1990.
In 1996, I married my wife Kim, who is also a life-long resident of De Soto. In 1997, I was Honorably Discharged from the military and we returned to De Soto to raise our family. I began working with the Sheriff’s Office to renew my career, while Kim continued her small business, which she still maintains. We continue to reside in De Soto, where our two children were born and raised. Both graduated from De Soto High School, and recently graduated from Kansas State University; each with double majors in their respective undergraduate programs.
Kim and I have been happily married for 27 years, and are a united front in pursuing our dreams for this next endeavor of becoming your Sheriff. I believe the Office of the Sheriff must return to its original principles of leadership and fiscal responsibility, which were created by Sheriff Fred Allenbrand and strengthened through Sheriff Frank Denning. Having the honor to experience Sheriff Allenbrand’s leadership firsthand, I firmly believe that if we lead by example, empower our people, and respect the voice of employees regardless of their rank or title, we will put Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in the best position for success.
It is my vow to the men and women of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and to the citizens of Johnson County, that I will lead with these proven principles and values, and strengthen our wonderful county in which we work, live, and raise our families.
